South Somersets second round of its club championships were held at the ever demanding West Kennet track which meant quite a journey for some of there riders but with a 3 races in each group everyone hopfully went home smiling.
With the AMX and Open class being ran together it was exciting racing throughout the group and bike capacity didnt appear to make a real advantage, 15 Year old Leighton Holmes took the holeshot in all 3 races and finished in top spot in race one but the experience of both Darren Banwell & Kris Ayres showed as the track got quicker throughout the day,
Tommy Alba out on his first time racing the 4 stroke took podium ahead of the unlucky Zac Alsop and Bradley Wheeler who both had front wheel wash outs just before the finish line. It was good to see our young friend Jake Alsop back from a long injury in the front of the pack albeit for a short amount of time, when full fitness returns he will be the one to watch.
The battle of the Big Wheels went to Ayrton Fiorenzio ahead of Ollie Jones with Luke Sturgeon following up in third place. The Small Wheels saw a rael battle for the top 3 places with Henry Ebbuts taking a win Luke Williams taking two with Billy King finishing second overall with some very consistant riding.
The Junior flyer at the moment is Bradley Flagg who took 3 very convincing wins from Casey Williams and the clubs girl rider of 2009 Lucy Calvert.
Finally the plucky 5 little Auto Riders, It was first time out for Alfie Calvert and Edward Hoddinott the track was difficult with the ruts in places deeper than their bikes but they all showed true grit and if these little fellas keep at then the sport is in good hands, Louis Townsend took the 3 wins ahead of Bedan Redan & Kyran Billing
Many thanks goes to all the officials and marshalls who without there help would not have made it the great days racing that it was
