South Somerset MX - race ready and raring to go!

Following their recent switch to the MC Federation the South Somerset MX club are feeling more confident than ever about the season ahead. 2010 looks set to be a defining moment in the clubs history as they join forces with the MC Federation to try and make motocross more popular in the UK and draw new people into the sport as well as do more for their existing members.

The former BSMA club has been pleased with the feedback from their members and impressed with the support they have already received from the MCF in such a short space of time, especially in making the accessibility, entries and the administrative side of running a motocross event that little bit easier. Members of the MCF staff have taken several visits to Somerset to advise the club over the transition and conduct Clerk seminars for club members. They have been to the club’s Tiverton venue for a free track inspection and advised on how to improve the circuit for modern day motocross. And they are now working together on the club’s annual Devon Air Ambulance fund raiser mx event which will be held at Tiverton Moto Parc on the 27th December. The event is open to MCF and BSMA members so anyone wishing to enter log on to www.southsomersetmx.com or call Wendy Williams on 07769215933.

As a newly affiliated MCF club South Somerset MX will also be included in the federation’s Elite Youth league, where a little like Speedway, MCF affiliated clubs are in direct competition between each other at selected events on a points scoring system throughout the year. The winning club of the Elite Youth League will win free insurance for 2011 as well as bragging rights of course!

SSMX and the MCF have been in regular contact as they work on online access for the club, which will allow not only existing members but also anyone wishing to join the chance to do so online. They’ll also be able to enter the South Somerset mx race events with a click of their mouse. It doesn’t end there though as the MCF have also helped the club with a comprehensive starter pack, media support and assistance with Sail flags, trackside banners and marketing to make sure the race meetings always look colourful and professional, not only to existing members but also to anyone who may be taking a first time glance at motocross.

South Somerset Chairman Alan Bryant is happy with how things are moving forward. “Things are looking good for us for 2010. We have more variation of venues and we will be able to announce our full calendar soon. The MCF have been true to their word in every sense, they have given us constant advice, feedback and support since we joined up and it’s clear that they would like to see youth motocross grown and receive more recognition in the UK as we all would and they are doing more than anyone to make that happen. We are pleased to be part of that and we are looking forward to working with them for many years to come. It already looks like we’ll be able to get use of a few tracks that we haven’t been able to use before and that has to be good for the riders, the club and the sport in general. We’re really excited about our first club event at Tiverton Moto Parc on the 31st January. That’s when it really will be the start of a new era for this club”.
